Can you cut Vitrispan vitreous enamel panels ?
Generally we recommend that panels are made to size because the enamel provides the protective and weather proof coating. However if not exposed to adverse weather conditions and if necessary the panels can be easily cut. We recomend the Evolution RAGE multipurpose circular saw, equipped with multipurpose Tungsten Carbide Tipped (TCT) blades (for cutting metal). When cutting Vitrispan panels they don't produce any heat, dust and virtually any sparks. However enamel and metal filings are produced from the cut and safety glasses gloves and all appropriate protective clothing should always be used along with all other all Evolution safety recommendations. Following cutting the cut edges should immediately be sealed with a good quality duct tape.
What is the standard thickness ?
The standard material thickness is 1.5mm although this does increase marginally with the enamel coating. Depth of panel depends on the backing specified and the support system. The shallowest depth of panel is 12mm and the deepest is 40mm although deeper panels can be made to order.
I've heard vitreous enamel can chip easily is this true ?
The short answer is no, vitreous enamel is extreamly tough. However during manufacture the vitreous enamel must be applied evenly to the correct depth. If too thick the enamel can be brittle. Chipping can be a problem with poorly applied enamel coating. Other manufacturers use a hand spray system to apply the enamel, which obviously can lead to inconsistent application. However at Vitrispan we use state of the art, fully robotic application systems which gives unparalleled levels of accuracy and controllability. With this computer monitored application we ensure a completely even layer of enamel which is extreamly tough and does not chip during normal use.
Can vitreous enamel be painted / repaired ?
Vitreous enamel is essentially a glass surface fused to steel, giving the durability of glass with the strength of steel. As with any glass surface it is extremely hard to paint as it is almost impossible for the paint molecules to bond with the enamel surface. This is why vitreous enamel is so effective as anti-vandal cladding. However we do have a repair system that can be applied, consisting of epoxy filler and colour matched spray on paint. This gives a good finish, however we should note any paint repair will not be a 100% match and will not have the longevity of the original enamel surface.
How heavy are the vitreous enamel panels?
This depends on the backing material, but it generally varies between 12 and 25 kg per m²
Are Vitrispan panels compliant to section 12 fire requlations?
Section 12 was part of the Fire Precautions (Sub-surface Railway Stations) Regulations 1989. This was updated and replaced in 2010 by regulations made under RR(FS) O 2005. Vitrispan® systems comply with the Sub-surface requirements, and are incombustible

Does delivery take a long time?
Standard production takes 4 to 6 weeks from approval of drawings and delivery takes a further 4 to 5 days following production. We have an express 24 hour delivery service (following production) if required. Express delivery is at additional cost and subject to availibility.
